More Changes for Donald Street ...
The old Aladdin Bowling Lanes site and the decisions of Planning Committee
I spoke about this proposal in my last column.
The 'Centre Franco-Ontarien de Ressources Pédagogiques' intends to renovate the existing building and add a three-story office building attached to the front of the existing structure. The office building will also contain a small bookstore, which will offer materials produced by the
Centre. The proposed use required no zoning changes.
I worked to make certain that the required site plan would incorporate several features such as a greater separation between the Centre's Donald street entrance and the school, an on-site sidewalk and a bicycle rack, fewer parking spaces and more greenery facing Donald Street. Also, windows facing the properties on Brant should be designed to respect the privacy of the
neighbours. Regrettably, a service access from Dieppe Street at the rear of the building, which would have provided greater separation of the delivery vans and small trucks from the Centre's clientele and from the adjacent school, was not approved.
Traffic Calming on Donald
The Pedestrian Crossing (PXO) at Quill Street will be replaced with full (3-way) traffic controls signals. The PXO near Telford will be replaced by a pedestrian actuated traffic signal.
Staff will be reviewing other traffic calming measures contained in a study done in 1994. This review will incorporate consultations with the community.

L'intersection du chemin Montréal et chemin Carson connaît de grand changement ces derniers temps. En plus d'être le site de l'édification d'un nouvel édifice
appartement, nous trouverons dorénavant un nouveau Centre des soins de longue durée de l'hôpital
Montfort.
Ce projet fut l'objet d'une réunion avec la communauté au mois de
juin. Lors de la réunion, nous avons adressé, à la satisfaction de tous ceux présent à l'assemblé, les préoccupations du voisinage quant à la perturbation des puits artésiens en raison de cette construction. Le projet ira maintenant de l'avant avec les approbations nécessaires.
Un foyer pour les aînés au 949 chemin Montréal
Le plan d'aménagement pour ce projet a reçu les approbations nécessaires suite a une discussion avec la communauté. La question d'une piste d'accès pour les piétons au coin nord-ouest du site fera partie d'autres discussions avec la communauté cet
automne.
