NEWS FROM CITY HALL

Princess Avenue and the Roundabout on the Parkway
Construction on the Princess/Parkway roundabout will commence shortly (early August). Most of the work will be done by this fall, with final landscaping in the spring. The contractor working on site will be Lafarge Paving and Construction (Eastern) Limited, and any questions can be referred to Jo-anne Moore, P.Eng., Project Manager, City of Ottawa at Tel. 613-580-2424 ext. 43975.
For Princess Avenue, City staff is in the process of preparing revised drawings, layout, and tender specifications following the input received at our last public meeting. The City is planning a further meeting with the community sometime this fall (date to be determined).

The Cloverdale ‘Triangle’
The ‘triangle’ in question is of course the piece of land at the confluence of Buena Vista and Cloverdale (city address, 411 Cloverdale). Little appears to exist in City files in the way of background information on the subject property, - apart from the fact that it was acquired by the former Village of Rockcliffe Park in 1949. Internally, City staff is seeking to know whether it serves any municipal purpose and if there is therefore a need to retain this property for ‘program requirements’. If anyone has knowledge about this property, I would ask that it be communicated to my office.

Ottawa River Crossings – a ‘primer’
Everyone will have heard of the “Environmental Assessment Study of Future Interprovincial Crossings in the National Capital Region” being conducted by the NCC (Federal Government) and the two provinces, Ontario and Québec. This study is not the first to examine what nature of crossing(s) is (are) needed and where it (they) ought to be located. One can only hope and pray that it will be the last and that it will be well done.

I have been involved with this issue for more years than I care to remember. The result is that I have useful information to share as well as a well developed position on the matter.

I would like to suggest that anyone interested begin by consulting the following link: http://www.rideau-rockcliffe.com/annual%20report/Annual%20Report%20E%201999.pdf

It will provide a copy of my 1999 Annual Report, on pages 1, 2 & 3 of which is, what I believe, to be a very good summary of the latest on Interprovincial Crossings. Although the summary was produced in 1999 nothing of substance has happened since. The relevant studies all pre-date that Annual Report. I would be pleased to provide copies of the article, for those not connected to the web. For any who are interested, I could also provide copies of the studies cited in the summary. I will be updating readers in my upcoming Annual Report to be published this fall.
