NEWS FROM CITY HALL
Donald Traffic Calming Measures - Update
Work on these modifications, discussed at a meeting in the
community on Monday, April 7, will get under way in the fall.
In-ground sensors and pedestrian actuators will be incorporated in
the modifications at Lola/Donald. This will allow more appropriate
apportioning of signal timing at this intersection. These works
will
finally correct a situation that has lasted already much too long.
Pedestrian Bridge from Coventry to Transitway
Extensive residential, retail and office development along
Coventry in recent years has created a demand for safe pedestrian
access to the nearest Transitway stop (across the Queensway, near
the Train Station). Provision for a pedestrian overpass was made
in agreements surrounding the building of Jetform baseball park. I
will propose that the overpass be included in the Transportation
Master Plan coming to the Transportation Committee on July 16th. I
encourage members of the community to speak up in favour of such a
proposal.
Intersection of Coventry & Vanier Parkway
The intersection will not be modified this year. City staff is
currently exploring options that avoid bringing the road closer to
the residential properties and performing a cost/benefit analysis
of the result. Transportation & Transit Committee will consider a
report, with their eventual conclusions, this fall. Please stay
tuned.
Counterpoint Academy
The former Overbrook Public School has now been leased to this
private school. Counterpoint Academy currently operates out of
rented accommodation on River Road North in Overbrook. The school
has 160 students, from pre-school to grade 6. The previously
approved site plan (when the school building was to be transformed
into apartments) will be amended to require more landscaping along
Quill and Glynn. The proposed site plan also provides an on-site
drop-off zone for those students whose parents drive their charges
to school.
Bon travail!
