CITY OF OTTAWA TO DONATE SURPLUS
PARA TRANSPO BUSES TO LEBANESE HOSPITAL

OTTAWA – At tomorrow’s Council meeting, City of Ottawa Councillors will be asked to approve a motion that would donate 4 surplus Para Transpo buses to Beit Chabab hospital in Bikfaya, Lebanon. The Beit Chabab hospital is a facility that specializes in the treatment of the physically disabled and is presently in dire need of equipment to adequately care for its patients.

This project is the initiative of Mr. Peter Irani who has also convinced the Ottawa Hospital to donate surplus equipment and material. “I visited Beit Chabab hospital in 1999 and was devastated to see young people inadequately treated. When I came back to Canada I decided to do something to help patients in any way I could” said Mr. Irani, who is also trying to raise the $20,000 needed to cover the shipping cost of the vans and equipment to Lebanon.

Mr. Irani will be available for questions tomorrow Wednesday, July 24th at 1:00 p.m. at Ottawa City Hall (Lisgar entrance). One of the wheelchair accessible Orion II Para-transit buses to be donated will also be on site.
