CITY ENCOURAGES RESIDENTS TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE
- Advisory Committees and Boards Seeking New Volunteer Members -
OTTAWA - The City of Ottawa is encouraging its residents to make a difference in their community by becoming a volunteer member of a City advisory committee or board.
A number of voting and non-voting positions are available on 16 City advisory committees, including the Ottawa Youth Cabinet and those on accessibility, agriculture and rural affairs, arts, cycling, environmental issues, equity and diversity, French language services, health and social services, heritage, local architectural conservation, mobility issues, forests, parks and recreation, poverty issues, and seniors. As well, applicants are being sought for 10 boards, including the Almonte Hospital Board, Cumberland Museum Board, Mohr's Landing/Quyon Port Authority, Osgoode Care Centre, Ottawa-Nepean Municipal Campsite Authority, Pine View Municipal Golf Club Board of Management, West Carleton Airport Authority, and the Mississippi Valley, Rideau Valley and South Nation conservation authorities.
" Our City's Advisory committees and boards contribute greatly to the development of policies, programs and initiatives that enhance our quality of life, " stated Mayor Bob Chiarelli. " Council benefits tremendously from the expertise, enthusiasm and civic pride that these volunteers bring to the table. So I encourage all citizens to get involved and play an active role. You can make a difference. "
To serve on a City advisory committee or board, an individual must be a resident of the City of Ottawa, and 18 years of age or older (with the exception of the Ottawa Youth Cabinet whose members are between 15 and 25 years of age). Membership on advisory committees and boards will, as much as possible, reflect Ottawa's diversity and demographics in such areas as gender, official language, geographic representation, race and disability.
